What's your favourite thing science got wrong?
Doesn't have to be Covid related, but I suspect, for many, science only began in December 2019.

New one - viable mouse sperm can't be sent in the post.

It can.

Because I'm almost as important as BRANDED, New Scientist informed me of this today.

You are aware, are you not, very new poster, that there is a Covid thread on which posting your offerings will reach a wider and more receptive audience.

However, keeping my thread on the first page for all to see is a not unwelcome collateral benefit.

Which of the two images you have posted links to depict what science has got wrong - and which is your favourite?

Can that be done in Drill? Chart-topper right there.

How Golden Oldie reckons a vaccine plant works:

First Witch: Round about the cauldron go;
In the poison’d entrails throw.
Toad, that under cold stone
Days and nights has thirty-one
Swelter’d venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i’ the charmed pot.

All Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.

Second Witch: Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder’s fork and blind-worm’s sting,
Lizard’s leg and owlet’s wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

All: Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Third Witch. Scale of dragon, tooth of wolf,
Witches’ mummy, maw and gulf
Of the ravin’d salt-sea shark,
Root of hemlock digg’d i’ the dark,
Liver of blaspheming Jew,
Gall of goat, and slips of yew
Silver’d in the moon’s eclipse,
Nose of Turk and Tartar’s lips,
Finger of birth-strangled babe
Ditch-deliver’d by a drab,
Make the gruel thick and slab:
Add thereto a tiger’s chaudron,
For the ingredients of our cauldron.

All:Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Second Witch: Cool it with a baboon’s blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.

Although they probably replace the blaspheming Jew with a pious Aryan...

Scientists at Cambridge University have discovered from a stool sample that the David Sullivan DNA comes from a long line of anonymous philanthropists...

Who'd a thunk it?

When Voyager 2 passed through the Neptunian system in 1989, Triton was found to be quite smaller than expected. It turned out to be the smallest of the 7 giant moons in the Solat System

Until 1978 it was believed that Pluto was larger than Mercury.

And in tne 80s it was predicted that Triton would be confirmed as the largest Moon in the Solar System

"The whole basis of homeopathy is to micro dose what you're allergic to, building up a resistance."

Where to start with this.

I would say that science, big business and government have not been good with nutrition and food.

Admittedly since we started farming we’ve fucked ourselves so are fighting a losing battle a lot of the time.

Re: The nature of scientific error
geeps, I've been saying that for years.

When I was at school if you had asthma or eczema you were a freak. Now it's quite common.

Germs are out friends, Dr Jenner worked that out a couple of centuries ago. If a mate got mumps, measles or chicken pox, me and the rest of his friends were sent to his house for tea so we would catch it.

Unfortunately, I didn't get chicken pox until my late 20s. It was probably the worst week of my life.

The whole basis of homeopathy is to micro dose what you're allergic to, building up a resistance.

The nature of scientific error
Science now basically agrees with what Nans throughout the centuries have been saying "a bit of dirt does you good".

Children brought up in households without pets are more likely to develop allergies to innocuous things.

An untrained immune system which has never been exposed to a genuine, but combatible threat, sees danger where there is none.

My new favourite -

The anti-vaxxer Royal Society rejecting Jenner's paper on vaccination and urging that he abandon experiments in the search for protection against smallpox....
